The online Food Handlers course lasts six hours and is intended for kitchen chefs, cooks, assistant cooks, maîtres d’hôtel, food service staff, maintenance workers, dishwashers, grocery store employees and other individuals assigned to food preparation duties, which include keeping foods hot or cold.
This course will:
- Familiarize you with your responsibilities as a food handler in ensuring food safety
- Teach you the food handling standards and requirements and how to put them into practice
In this easy-to-follow course, you can pause to review and expand on certain concepts at any time. Technical support is offered both online and by telephone.

Access to this 100% online course is limited to 90 days.
The course must be completed by the individual who registered for it.
The Food Handlers course is included in the Food Establishment Managers course. No separate registration is required.
After completing the online course, you must register for the certification exam given by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation. This exam is written in person, so you must travel to the exam location. The exam monitor may also require payment of an additional amount. This is a non-refundable charge that varies by region and cannot be transferred to a later date.

Tax credit
Under the Act to promote workforce skills development and recognition, which requires employers to invest an amount equal to 1% of their payroll in employee skills development, the course costs are deemed eligible training expenditures for the purposes of the refundable training tax credit. Complete the Déclaration des activités de formation (Statement of Training Activities) form provided by the Commission des partenaires du marché du travail.
